Objectives: Orthopedics use many different biological grafts, organic, inorganic and synthetic materials to replace residual bone defects. Recently, materials based on bioactive glass, which have a more effective osteostimulating factor, are being actively studied.

Methods: Bioactive glass based material is a multiphase inorganic material synthesized by chemical deposition and ceramic technology, having osteoinductive and osteoconductive properties, quickly integrates with the bone and transforms into bone over time. Bone-plastic surgery using bioactive glass was performed on 92 children with benign bone tumors. The material was applied in the form of granules or powder.

Results: As a result of osteoplastic operations, no complications from the postoperative wound were found. Tumor recurrences were detected in 8 (8.7%) patients. In the course of X-ray monitoring, restructuring and replacement of plastic material with newly formed bone tissue was observed. The patients used the operated limb after an average of 3–6 months.

Conclusion: The use of a material based on bioactive glass during osteoplastic operations has a number of advantages – the volume and time of operation decreases, stimulation of bone reparative osteogenesis occurs, which contributes to the restoration of bone structure and limb function.
